Home Improvement update

Well, after 2 weeks and 2 days of lots of noise, and dust in my house they are finally done with our Family Room/Play room. When I say done, I really wish it was really done, but it is not totally done. We still need to prime, paint and then put the carpet on it. After that, comes the fun part: decorating!!!!
Me and a very good friend of mine went to shop for a sofa and with her help I was able to find a sofa that I really liked and will fit perfectly in our room. Thanks to Isa!!!
The room looks a lot bigger than I imagine and we are so happy to add this so needed space to our house. I think our entire family will take a great advantage of this new space.
I promise to post some before and after picture here soon!!!

A Day at the Lake

We love to play outside, grill, and go for a walk, especially at the lake. We found a special spot at the lake that we like to call our private beach at the lake.

We love to take Lucas there. He loves to play at the sand, with the water, get wet and be a kid. I do think that is very important for him to have those kinds of experiences. He is learning he is having fun; he is having a great family time.  Last time we went there, it was a little chilly and Lucas decided to get wet anyway, so we took his shoes off and let him play at the water.  I was having so much fun just watching him discovering the water, the waves, the wind, temperature… He would go back and forward following the waves and laugh every time the waves got him.

I few days ago I posted a Yellow Corn Coffee Cake recipe and I talked a little bit about our 4pm coffee break in Brazil. Last Tuesday I invited some friends over for a Coffee Break here in my house. Like I said, it is a excuse to get together, talk about life, kids and have fun with your friends. I had 4 friends coming that day and we did have a great time. Lucas even put up a guitar show for us, LOL. He is our new Guitar Player!!!
I wish we could have it here at least once a week, that is a well deserve get together for friends and families.

Well, here is how things are going in my house right now. As you all now I am pregnant, we are expecting our second son and I can't wait to meet him.  We live in a 3 bedroom house that has an unfinished bonus room since when we bought it. With our second son in his way we need an extra bedroom, so we decided to work on that. Calm down, let me be clear, we decided to have someone working on that. We did think ( my husband did to be honest with you) about doing it ourselves, but with my husband working 80 hours a week and me been pregnant and taking care of a lovely 19 months old Prince, that was going to be impossible. So for almost 2 weeks already I have people working on my house. I don't even need to say that my house is a mess right now. Dust everywhere, no matter how much I clean it, it still not cleaned, but I am sure it will pay back in the end. The room is already looking great and I can't wait to have it ready and share with you guys.  I promise I will post a before and after picture of it, when I have it ready.
I am also working on a picture board for Lucas' room and another board for baby's room that I think is going to look great ( I hope so). I will post some pictures of it later too. Since Lucas was born I wanted to do it for him and never had the time or chance to do it, but now I will find a time to do not just one, but 2 of those boards.
Is that enough for one person to be doing at the same time? No? Ok, here we go. My list keeps growing. I am also getting ready for my son' birthday party. His party will be a Farm Party. I love organizing and decorating kids' party. I should work with it! So, I am already going crazy with all the ideas on my mind. I just need a little more time to do all that, but I will get it all done, you will see.

Going to NY?

Okay, I posted something about NY a few days ago. We were going to NY for the first time and we were looking for some suggestions on what to do there.  So, we went to NY, we had a good time there and now I am going to share with you a little bit about our trip.

Here is what happened: on Thursday evening we got the news that our Baby Dog Bela got ran over by a car. We could not believe it. It was not easy to accept. First thing that came to my mind was: I am not going to NY anymore, I do not want to go, I want to stay here! After ours crying and talking to my husband we decided that the best thing for us was to get out of here.

We got in NY on Friday morning. We checked in and we started walking, walking and walking. First stop was at Toys ‘r us with Lucas. He and we too, was amazed with all the toys, the Farris wheel…I became a child again inside that store. Another thing that caught Lucas attention were the lights on the street. He was on my husband shoulders with his eyes opened looking at everything around him. Everything was new, interesting and brilliant for him.

Next day, we went to Central Park and FAO. I loved both places. Central Park is amazing. We walked around, had some snacks, walked a little more, and went to the carousel with Lucas. I had never been in a carousel as fast as that one.

At night we went to a Brazilian Steak House. If you have never been to one, I suggest you to look for one in your city and try it. You will love it!!!! It is totally different from any other steak house you had been before.

On Sunday we met some friends and walked, walked, and talked, and had a great time together!!!!

I realized that NY with a 19 months old is not easy but it can be done!!! There is a lot to do with your little ones there, we did not had the time to do all the fun things that the city offers, but we did have a great time!!!!

Delicious Yellow Corn Coffee Cake

Well, here is the truth: I am just 13 weeks pregnant, but I look like I am going to have a baby any time ant here is why.

Yellow Corn Coffee Cake, is an every day cake at our table in Brazil. Every day, around 4pm is what we call coffee time in Brazil, but it is not just about coffee. It is about getting together, taking a break, talking, and of course having a coffee with some cake, hot French bread with butter, cheese bread ( I promise to tell you all about it, it is delicious!!)…… Like I said, it starts around 4 pm and sometimes it goes on and on and on.  At my grandmother house every day at 4pm the table will be ready. We never know who is coming and how many are coming for the coffee, and that is the fun of it, but the table is always ready and delicious. I love when we are sitting on the table and the bell rings, someone else came to join us for the coffee, more talking, more laugh, and more good time.

So, I like this tradition and I try to continue it here with my friends and sometimes just me, Lucas and my husband. Actually, next week I will have some friends over for a coffee here in my house and I will try to take some pictures of it.

Here is the recipe of the Traditional Yellow Corn Coffee Cake
4 eggs
3/4 cups oil
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 cup yellow corn
1 cup Parmesan cheese
1/2 tbsp salt
1 tbsp of baking powder
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Butter one 8 inch round cake pan.
Mix everything together with a mixer or blender and bake it for 35 min at 350 degree for a soft cake( that is the best for my taste) or for 45 min if you like it well done.

I recently was given the opportunity to try out some sip cups from Zak! Designs. Zack! is a line of food accessories designed to make mealtime fun. I was really pleased with both sip cups that  I tested. My 19 months old was running around my house with his new cars sip cup on his hand and there was no spill on the floor, Yeahhh!!!

It has a great 3D artwork, screw-on lid and what I like the most, slide-back top reveals flexible, pop-up straw what helps to keep it clean.
